Code of Conduct

At Dance 502, we believe every student deserves the best dance education, regardless of age, ability, aspiration, or socio-economic status. Our program is designed to give students the highest quality of dance education.

Dance education encompasses far more than technique and the steps your children learn. We believe the discipline of dance teaches students the qualities of commitment, leadership, creativeness, and being a team player. Our goal is to educate through teaching students skills they need for success in life, whether it be in dance, school, or their future careers.

Behavior

  • Parents and students are expected to behave in an acceptable, friendly, and professional manner.
  • All students are expected to behave in a respectful and appropriate manner while in the studio and while representing the studio at any outside events. Students may not bully or harass their peers, and students must treat all staff members with respect.
  • Students are expected to be friendly and welcoming to all dancers and family members in the studio.
  • Students may not deface any surface in the studio, will clean up after themselves and will treat the studio with respect.
    • This includes not kicking walls, peeling paint, climbing on the desk, climbing or hanging on the ballet barres, or wasting bathroom supplies.
  • All students and staff will adhere to Dance 502’s Controlled Substance Policy.

Communication

Students/Parents should direct all question/concerns to the Director via email ([email protected])

Basic Information

Parents and students are responsible for staying up-to-date and current on all Dance 502 correspondence including emails, social media, paperwork, and announcements.

Emergency Notifications

All class cancellation notifications or other emergent information will be sent through SportsEngine via email or push notifications, and will be posted on Facebook and Instagram. If you are not following our social media pages or have not signed up for SMS alerts or push notifications on SportsEngine, please follow or sign up so you can have the most up to date news for the studio.

Cell Phone Use

Cell phone use during classes is prohibited. All phones, tablets or other electronic devices should remain in bags during class. Please know that in the event of any type of emergency, your child would be free to use their phone.

Class Attendance

If a student misses a class due to illness, vacation or any other reason, arrangements can be made to attend another regularly scheduled class to make up the missed class (if one is available). No credits or refunds will be given for missed classes and special make-up classes will be scheduled only if a class session is cancelled by the school, instructor or due to inclement weather.

Please be aware that make-up classes are restricted. Again, these make-ups may be done ONLY with instructor permission and by appointment. This is also with the understanding that your child may not be able to participate in the entire make-up class. She will be able to participate in barre work, warm-ups, and across the floor routines. However, when the class is working on their recital routine, she will be asked to be the audience during this time. It would be confusing to have a dancer practice an unfamiliar routine in a different class. This also allows us to build consistency with all of our dancers.

Class Level Placement

Class/Level placements are at the discretion of the Instructors and Director. Student age, ability, and maturity are all factors involved when deciding class/level placement.

If adjustments to a class/level need to be made, they will be made in the best interest of the dancer and the dancer’s personal abilities. Thank you for trusting the evaluations of our staff and recognizing that their professional knowledge and opinions are in the best interest of your child.

Dance Corrections and Notes

Dancers are encouraged to listen to each dance correction/note given, whether it is directed to them individually, to another dancer in their class, or to the entire class. Instructors are encouraged to constructively correct students, as well as give praise when a student demonstrates good work ethic, and proper execution of corrections. Always acknowledge a correction/note when a teacher or choreographer offers you one, by:

  • Verbally acknowledging by saying “yes”, or “thank you”
  • Attempting to physically make the correction immediately

Casting

Casting and choreography are based on dancers’ strengths and on the skills each dancer demonstrates throughout their dance year.

If a parent or student complains in a public way in our facility about the student’s casting, the student is at risk of being removed from their casting or performance.

If a student or parent has a concern or question regarding casting or placement, please email your concern to [email protected] and it will be addressed. Our goal is to handle questions and concerns in a productive way in which parents and students realize that they will be heard and addressed.

This system will facilitate the student and parent in focusing their questions and concerns in a positive and constructive manner.
